Listening to: Peaches- The Stranglers.

As everyone in the UK is aware- the last couple of days has been a bit of a heat wave (although it doesn't look like it now its rained and is very grey). Looks like we have said goodbye to the sun again- something that I feel alone in being happy about. It's not fair everyone gets to enjoy the sun when I have to work in a cold hospital- and even worse when I do get in the sun it's just not warm enough 90% of the time so I get funny looks by being over dressed.

Rather be over dressed that half naked like the majority of girls in Essex. I know I may come across as a bit of an old lady in not wanting to show my body off but I think that at the age of 22 (well actually since I was about 13) I don't have the urge to get out my body, showing the world off my belly and bum at every opportunity wearing little more than a crop top no bigger than your bra and shorts that are smaller than most of the knickers on the market. I just don't see how that is a good look. Am I missing something?

But rest assured I was out  enjoying the weather this weekend. On Saturday I joined my boyfriend Chris and his family for his cousins wedding in Poole. IT WAS AMAZING!!!

Not only are chris' family incredibly friendly making me feel completely at home (even though it was the first time I had met most of them), but they really seem to like me. Chris' aunt complemented me several times on how nice I looked (and always look), and all told Chris how lucky he is to be with me.

To be honest- I am quite a catch and an overall amazing human being- but I like to give good impressions to everyone. Lucky for me I got away with another leopard print outfit at a wedding

Dress: No idea
Belt: New Look
Ankle boots: Lakeside
Bag: River Island
Bracelets: Links of London & Thomas Sabo
Rings: Topshop & Topman
Necklace: eBay

... even though I didn't realise until the evening quite how low cut it was. Future not to all women- when men say that you have nice eyes; they really are just looking at your chest ha ha ha.

It was topped off with a trip to Bournemouth. If you get a chance you should definitely check out the aquarium there- it was fantastic! I'm so glad Chris took me as I love animals and fish and especially the turtles and tortoises!

Chris couldn't resist a dip into the sea (just a toe in was too cold for me), and my bag got mega heavy I ended up feeling like a pack mule- especially with my creepers tied around the handle but it was a beautiful day and I was just happy to walk about with Chris.

The best part about  going to the beach with chris' family was we finally got a picture of us together (all thanks to his dad), but was knackered all the ride home. Even the comedy styling of Chris dad and uncle in the front seats ended- it was odd to meet another bunch of siblings that are as similar as each other mine- count less points in the weekend I didn't have a clue who was saying what, one uncle said the EXACTLY the same thing about me being a vegetarian as Chris dad, and I can see where Chris gets a lot of his personality now.

I really like his family and it was rubbish coming home. At least I didn't end up with sunburn. In fact I seem not to have tanned at all.

Forever pale.

Listening to: Drain You- Nirvana

Prompted by a post of Facebook, I had the urge to join my boyfriend in an after work orange juice wearing my cut out Topshop tunic. If you're considering this and not so sure- it looks better on person than in pictures, and just because it looks a certain way on the model and the model is thin, it looks fantastic on curves- or at least that's what I tell myself.

Tunic: Topshop
Leggings: Primark
Creepers: Camden
Sunglasses: Trash Vintage
Bag: River Island

The tunic is meant to be worn as a dress but its too short on me to feel comfortable, so I've paired it with some leggings and my creepers instead. I really think this is a beautiful item, and the cut out around the waist makes me look almost skinny as it emphasises a woman's naturally smallest part of her body. Next time you're in Topshop try it on.

I'm off to my boyfriends cousins wedding tomorrow with his family and I'm really looking forward to it- I can't wait to spend time with them all! I seem to have fallen into the trap of wearing leopard print again still not really  knowing if it is acceptable or not- but the dress is the only thing I feel comfortable in. But with the black painted nails and general aura I have I'm hoping they understand I'm just a little odd and not purposely trying to dress inappropriately at a wedding. I'll try to take loads of photos and eat a lot of cake and not too much wine or the boyfriend and his dad are going to have to carry me at some point.

I  hope you all have as good a weekend as I'm going to have.

Listening to: Yesterday- The Beatles

Today was another day for me to fulfil my bridesmaid duty. Next summer my twin sister gets married to the only person in the world crazy enough to not only be with her for these last 6 years, but to plan the rest of his life with her. He understands how crazy all us are and is still wants in on it?

To be honest my main duty in the wedding (other than to make sure my sister doesn't panic too much on the day and get her into her dress and what not- the funniest thing I had to do for my older sister trying to hoist my dress up enough to get under her dress) is to disagree with my mother in lieu of my sisters ideas (they have completely different ideas), sing the register and CHOOSE THE CAKE!!!!! I HAVE CAKE DUTY and today was all about choosing the cake (and flowers but they're not as good as cake). I can't wait for more bridesmaid duty ( I love cake!), just look how fun it is!

I'm not going to lie- the majority of that plate of cake was eaten by me, and I had too much cloudy lemonade, but it was a good evening with my sisters and mum.

I bought this dress Saturday looking for a dress for this weekend- its not wedding suitable but looks pretty cool.

Dress: H&M
Necklace: eBay
Socks: American Apparel (literally the only item I can afford from there bought 2 or 3 years ago)
Boots: Dr Martens

My hair today is a mess of curls (despite attempting to blow dry it straight yesterday) so it was almost impossible to dress this up so I opted for these cool socks rather than tights (and I like the cheeky flash of thigh) and added the boots for a sort of nomadic look. I wish my iPhone had a better camera, I have slightly blue eyebrows today, but it's not showing up in the photos :(

I feel like a lot of my friends/ family are getting married at the moment, my older sister got married last year, my friend got married 3 or 4 weeks ago, I'm off to my boyfriends cousins wedding Saturday, and my cousin gets married in July. Although it feels like its the 'in thing' they all have been together for absolutely years (except for one engagement I've spotted on facebook this week- they've been together a couple of months... they're probably still wearing deodorant and eating with dignity).

Listening to: In My Life- The Beatles.

Wow my hair is getting LONG! I knoow its a long way away from being mermaid hair (mainly covering my nipples) but it is by far the longest I have ever had it!

Not bad for 6 months growth, and my undercute is really grown out (considering I only had it recute 3 weeks ago). I didn't notice how long its got until the weekend gone, as it was the first time I've taken the time use hair straightener on it in nearly two months.

My face looks really weird in this photo- but I love my super cool yellow rose jacket from my boyfriend- I can't believe he manages to find things I like so easily. I think it draws attention away from my eyebrows- they're really dark and thick but I've got into the habit of adding a lot of eyeliner over the top lately. I really need to stop doing silly things like that (I'm getting tempted to dye them blond and add colour to them but I know I'll forget to draw them in- someone stop me!!).

Jacket: From my boyfriend
Choker: eBay
Top: DIY (originally from Primark)
Shorts: Topshop
Tights: Primark
Creepers: Camden
Studded socks: DIY

My hair seems to have some unnatural growing power, it grows so quickly I can't get away without dying and cutting it every 3-4 weeks. If my sister wasn't a hairdresser I would have awful hair. Hopefully it will be different again soon (using some awesome new Wella products) and I can't wait! Its looking dull simply being longish and black I can't wait for a change. I have no idea what she has in store for me (there isn't a colour I haven't had so I'm open to everything).

Listening to: Molly's Lips- Nirvana.

Hi, my name is Jodie and I'm addicted to velvet clothing.

I wish I could mean this more lighthearted but I see an item pf clothing in velvet, and if it fits me I HAVE to buy it. This weekend I bought these beautiful (to me anyway) blue velvet boots using my vouchers.

I had to were them as soon as I got home wondering around the house; and (like my bargain black boots from Topshop) these are very very very comfortable. I wore them all day shopping in Chelmsford and only took them off to drive home.

I'm wearing my hair in my alternative Heidi braids again (its got so long its uncomfortable when its not up). I had quite a few compliments and people asking how I do it. Would anyone be interested if I done a tutorial.

Faux leather jacket: H&M
T-shirt: KONG
Choker: I can't remember sorry.
Boots: Topshop
Socks: Primark
Bag: River Island
Skirt: I  think from Primark

This brings my grand total of velvet items to 8; 2 velvet dresses, a pair of vintage velvet trousers, 2 velvet maxi skirts, a Velvet body suit, a velvet choker, and these velvet Chelsea boots. This isn't enough velvet!!!

My boyfriend though I looked really tall in this outfit- as in a lot taller then usual. It did make me realise how long my legs are. What do you think? how tall  do I look?

Reading: Flat Stanley- Jeff Brown.

Celebrating the first outing of my new kindle (replacing  the broken one bought for Christmas) I couldn't help downloading 'Flat Stanley' by Jeff Brown, me and my sisters favourite children's story. I love the bit where he gets posted to California in an envelope- I used to think that you could really do that if only I was flat.

Its strange that even though I pretty much know every word- I still enjoy reading it. Has anyone else read 'Flat Stanley'? Or has an equally fantastic children's book?

On to further good news- I won the February & March incentive at work and finally received my prize last week!

The best thing about winning NHSP is that you win it purely by working over 15 shifts in a two month period (which is no problem for me as I worked about 40). So I won by doing the job I love! I choose to convert my incentive to high street vouchers.

Although its slightly selfish of me picking clothes (rather than something like Argos vouchers so I could get a pc, or use them when I move out), I desperately needed new clothes, something that on a student nurses budget I can't really afford. As the worse part of losing weight is that all of a sudden your whole wardrobe doesn't fit anymore, and as I lost it in less then 6 months it wasn't even like I could buy clothes as I went along. Plus any clothes I still had that would fit I choose when I was fatter only because they fit and not because I liked them. They didn't really show any of my personality at all, not like the clothes I had pre-uni (that a selfish ex of mine made me throw out as they were 'inapprorite').

So here is a little haul.

Purse: Topshop, Peace earrings: Topshop, Eye earrings: Topshop, Finger ring: Topshop, Eyeshadow: Topshop.

This is by far my favourite purchase, this khaki cut out top from Topshop. I though I would hate it at first (as it has big cuts missing) but I tried it on and loved it! So I even bought it in black. (the black jeans in the pictures are also from Topshop but I bought them about 4 years ago before I put on weight and was super excited when I got back into them- although they seem to be an inch or too too short so get to be sexy cropped trousers).

It feels selfishly nice to own expensive clothes (Topshop is expensive to me).

Listening to: Hey Jude- The Beatles

So finally (after a frantic phone call when he couldn't find shampoo) my boyfriend has gone off on a team building adventure course, leaving me with a few days contact less from him. I'm not going to lie I miss him already, not so much because its been a long time since I've seen him- but because I know I can't just ring him up if I need a quick chat. These next four days cannot go quickly enough! I would say 'while the cats away the mice will play' but to be honest he doesn't even attempt to stop me from doing whatever I want so I don't need to exercise my freedom.

In preparation for this (as we barely see each other as it is) we spent the day in London together (you might have remembered I mentioned it in my previous post)  and I got to try out my beautiful new floral socks!

Here's how I wore them (sorry about how rubbish the phone photos are I'm still yet to get my camera fixed).

Dress: Charity shop
Tights: Primark
Necklace: eBay
Socks: DIY
Creepers: Camden

Although this looks like my "sexy lady" dress, This is actually made of velvet (I LOVE velvet) and originally had these awful feather shoulders attached that came straight off! I think this picture of me looks a little strange- mostly as I rarely have my hair in a pony tail- being someone who's job requires hair being up I am a queen of up dos so a simple ponytail (even though it was a quick fix to train hair) is strange.

These are my new creepers as well and I still don't think I love them as much as the old  pair- my old pair are irreplaceable. Even with this amazing curry and smoothie (mines purple) couldn't sweeten the deal.

If you're in Camden lock- you HAVE too try this chickpea curry! It was by far the greatest curry I have EVER had and I've had a lot of curry.

Look out for more posts this week- I've got a lot of ideas that I'm using this free time to put into motion.

Listening to: Start!- The Jam.

However pretty those floral headbands are- I think it take a certain type of person to pull them off and I'm afraid that the majority I've seen are not good. I myself cannot pull them off, but I do love the flower power vibe.

I spotted some beautiful false flowers in Hobby craft and it gave me an idea.....

I LOVE socks, I'm serious I seem to have an overwhelming attraction to a good pair of socks (might be because I get freaked out by feet- a occupational hazard of dressing leg wounds), and find it difficult to go outside the house without them. So this weeks DIY was customising some sexy socks all of my own :)

So with a bunch of plastic flowers, some left over studs and a pack of Primark socks magic was made.

Attaching the studs was pretty standard but above is a few quick pics of how i attached the flowers if anyone feel adventurous. The flowers that came on a bit of "wire" (it was actually a bit of twisted paper rather than metal) I simply pocked through the stretched sock neck, folded over the wire and stitched the sock material as best I could covering the wire (to avoid rubbing).

The flowers I can only describe as those that 'pop-off'' (every time I removed one I said 'pop') I stitched a few times on the inside of the sock, threaded the needle through to the outside, through the flower as shown, back through the sock, and stitched a few more times to keep it stable.

I've been out shopping today decked in the last pair of socks and was feeling amazing until someone rudely stepped on the back of my creepers and caused the sole of be torn off :'(. I have no idea how my boyfriend managed to stop me from bursting into tears -how can someone could treat my possessions like that and so obviously walk away?

Fortunately we were in Camden so finding a nice and  affordable pair to replace them wasn't hard, but now I'm home I'm feeling quite bummed about it. I feel like I've lost a friend. Fingers crossed I can repair them.
